THRILLED TO BITS

There is something immensely satisfying about settling down with a new book: the feel of the glossy cover; that faint smell of fresh print; the anticipation of immersing yourself in its pages ...
All this is magnified beyond belief when what you are holding is a copy of your very own first novel! Mine is called "A Tarnished Life" and is available at: https://austinmacauley.com/author/stevensgeraldine

Holding the finished product got me thinking about the writing process and how I first felt about putting pen to paper. After spending a lot of time creating detailed character descriptions and defining the plot, I felt confident enough to start the novel. Then I realised that a linear chapter one, chapter two format wasn't going to work and so it was back to the drawing board. Then I started writing random parts of the book as the inspiration took me, putting them in order much later. It struck me that creative writing is a bit like life itself: you take it as it comes with an open mind and enjoy it!
