“Creating is about sharing ideas, sharing aesthetics, sharing what you believe in with other people.” – Shepard Fairey
I have just returned from an enjoyable and inspiring trip to the UK to promote my book, “A Tarnished Life”.
In collaboration with Pen to Print, an organization aiming to build a network of expertise and support for aspiring writers in Barking and Dagenham, I held a workshop on creative writing at Valence Library. During the workshop we discussed the challenges of creating true-to-life characters, sharing ideas and approaches. A truly rewarding and enriching experience for me and I hope the participants.
This event also brought back many happy memories because the library was my local library, being just across the road from the house I lived in as a child. On the subject of memories, I was also invited to run another two workshops with sixth-formers at the school I attended from 1964 until doing my A-levels in 1970 and leaving the country to study abroad. Despite the fact that it had changed almost beyond recognition, the memories came flooding back.
It was truly refreshing to be able to exchange ideas and points of view with these young people and I was amazed how engaged and enthusiastic they were. A heartfelt thanks to the teachers at the school for making this possible.
