NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS

I expect most of you have made at least one resolution for 2025 although at a couple of weeks into the New Year these good intentions may well have fallen by the wayside.

Apparently around 4,000 years ago the ancient Babylonians were the first people to make New Year’s resolutions. During a religious festival known as Akitu, they made promises to the gods to pay their debts and return things they had borrowed. Honouring these promises meant that the gods would bestow favour on them.

I have come across a couple of rather bizarre resolutions:

• Learn how to swear in multiple languages (I can do that already!)

• Refuse to act your age (I know several people who have obviously made this resolution!)

My New Year’s resolution is to try and finish my new novel and put more effort into promoting “A Tarnished Life” published last year. If you have read and enjoyed my book, you can help me with that by leaving a review on Amazon or https://www.austinmacauley.com/book/a-tarnished-life
