A Reader’s Connection Through Time – My Thoughts on Beth’s Review

Beth’s review of A Tarnished Life truly warmed my heart. Her words reflect exactly what I hoped to convey through the novel—the lingering effects of life events we don’t choose, and how those ripples shape our identities, relationships, and choices across time. It’s incredibly rewarding to hear that this theme resonated with her.

Capturing post-WWII life to the present was both a challenge and a joy. I wanted to breathe authenticity into each era and reflect how society changes—and sometimes doesn’t. Beth’s mention of “vivid portrayals of life” across these periods reassures me that the details and atmosphere I worked so hard to create came through clearly for the reader.

I was especially touched by her reference to the characters. I always aim to create layered, realistic people—those we root for, those we struggle with, and those who challenge us to look deeper. It’s such a compliment to hear that some characters in the book made an emotional impact, whether they were loved or loathed. For me, that’s when fiction feels most alive—when readers form strong opinions and connections.

Beth’s recommendation is deeply appreciated, and I’m grateful she took the time to reflect so thoughtfully on the book. Hearing that A Tarnished Life was both gripping and emotionally resonant makes the entire writing journey worthwhile.
